P.3-22 NIGHT

As I was reading this book about the victims of the holocaust, I realized the amount of pain and suffering just one family had to go through. This family consists of a father, mother, boy, and a girl. They live in Sighet, a little town in Transylvania. The Jewish community in this town was like one big family and would do anything to help someone in need.

As a war began, the town became a ghetto and the government of the Germans entered without the consent of the people. The Germans lived in the houses of the Jews and they expect to be fed and housed without pay. The Jews had to work for the Germans to keep their heads. The Germans had closed down the churches and synagogues to stop the worship of the Jewish religion. The Jews were transported to a place where they didn’t know what was going to happen to them and if they would stay together. They tried to prepare, but they can not prepare for what is in their future. In the book it says, "Each of us will be allowed to bring his personal belongings. A backpack, some food, a few items of clothing. Nothing else.” This is the Jews’ mind set and they are telling themselves that it will be not as terrible as they think. The Hungarian police had a different plan. “The Hungarians police made us climb into the cars, eighty persons in each one.” The Jews were in the worst condition possible.

These people were in a place that they must live day by day. I think this was the worst place a person could be in and the worst way treated. These people have had to be the bravest in the world because they had to face their challenges face on.

Steve,
It is obvious that you did some additional background research about the Holocaust. This is helpful. But it may have been even better had you introduced the main characters that were introduced in chapter 1 of the book, such as Moishe and Elie. Good idea of also incorporating your own beliefs and ideas.
